Joy Unconfined

I know. They’re not valentines over these few weeks. Still… for the sake of continuity and categorizing, these posts remain titled so… after all, they all came from the same red tin box that once housed a Hostess House Fruit Cake.

I wish I knew who this was from. Still, here’s the letter.

Dear ones all.
How Xmas time does roll around. Whether we are ready or not. It is cold here & rough roads to. Will have a week vacation of school. Do wish you kids were flying over, and would like to see your new wave. I sure would like one to, are they much trouble to keep nice. that is a nice present. but don’t think I will get that. Wishing you all a Merry Xmas & Happy New Yr.

Apparently, Gran had got a new permanent wave hairdo, and the writer was wishing for one as well. I’m so fascinated by these little glimpses into the thoughts and lives of that time period.

Helps me feel some sense of continuity… connecting with the past… and willing to leave bits of myself for the future. It shows that no matter what era, people are… real. Just people. We think, and feel, and love and hurt and covet and wish and dream and do the laundry.
