Things you can buy for me for my birthday. It’s Sunday. In case you were wondering…
don’t trust ANYone, ANYwhere.
And… to confirm that I have expensive tastes:
The dress, not the chick…
The DRESS, NOT the CHICK!

but I can be sort of geeky at times.
I’m no great genius, by any means, but I like cool, interesting, educational stuff. The following definitely fits in that category.
There’s this thing called the Meade MySKY, and they’re touting it as the hottest new astronomy gadget. Meade MySky allows the viewer to instantly identify over 30K celestial objects at a click of a button.
Here’s the description:
Meade and OpticsPlanet.com proudly present the newest and coolest astronomy gadget yet – Meade MySky. Meade My Sky Personal Video Planetarium is a revolutionary way to explore our universe. MySKY is a fun, interactive, hand-held, point-shoot-and-identify multimedia guide to our universe that will guide you through the night sky better than if you had your own private astronomer standing next to you. While it is similar to infamous Celestron SkyScout, Meade Mysky features a full-color LCD screen and the added ability to control a Meade computerized telescope. Meade My Sky is simple to operate with easy to follow video menu. The whole family will love MySKY, will make a great gift too not only for a young astronomer or curious student, but for anyone who is interested in the latest technology, gadgets, science, or unusual gift ideas!
Is it just me, or does that look like a really fun thing? Summer is here and the night skies are clear. Looking at this puts me in mind of when I was a kid. There was many a warm July night that I’d go outside and lay on the ground to stare up into the stars. All I could do was just… look at them. I didn’t know the constellations, and only guessed when I might be looking at the brighter dots that might be planets… Imagine if I had had one of these things to fiddle with. I swear, I’d have never got any sleep!
As a mom, I don’t think I’d mind much if my kid stayed up all night learning just where she is in the universe, and what’s out there.
You can find the Meade MySky at Optics Planet. And from what it looks like, if you’re as geeky as I am, you’ll get just as excited over the telescopes, binoculars, spotting scopes, night vision stuff, and flashlights they have to offer as well.
Do I NEED any of this stuff? I guess that depends on your definition of ‘need’.
I could be blathering about clothes and ridiculous, inane, girly crap instead. This, at least, is mind expanding.
Soooo… if you want to buy one of these for me, for my birthday, which is coming very soon…
Or, you just want to get something cool for the nerdy, science-y, geeky Dad, Grad, or anyone else…
Check out Optics Planet. Looks like you get free UPS shipping on orders over $29.95, too. (Hint, hint…)
So there’s this bid site where you win the items up for auction, but only if you have the lowest bid.
How do they do that? I admit it. I was curious. Had to go see.
Imagine my surprise when I saw I could bid on a BMW 3 Series!
What?!
That just left me confused… they’re saying if I bid on that item, and have the lowest bid, I get to have the car?
After reading a little further, you have to have the lowest UNIQUE bid… which means if I bid $.01, and someone, anyone, else bids $.01, then neither of us wins… BUT… if I bid $.03 and no one else gets around to doing so… it’s all mine.
Interesting concept.
I don’t know how they make money from doing this. And I’m sure they do make money. I think it has something to do with people signing up for some kind of subscription tied to their cell phone number, and using text message to bid…etc…
But it also says you don’t have to use a cell phone and text to bid…
So, I guess you can ‘sign up’ and bid online, but you aren’t as cool, and you have to endure advertising.
I do.
When I have money, I enjoy the hunt for those things I need, those things I can’t live without. And OH so much more gratifying is closing in on that bargain, that deal, that $$ off of my intended prey.
So here’s Coupon Chief. I was pleasantly surprised to find the names of a few sites that I visit regularly! I commonly drool over the pretty shoes and bags at Zappos.com, and Overstock.com was where I found my favorite man (knife block). I’ve shopped several of the other stores listed as well… so, you know, it might be worthwhile to check out Coupon Chief… if you’re shop-surfin’ ANYway…
I’m such a geek.
I found a WHOLE store full of COMIC BOOK HERO SHIRTS!!!
I know. It’s not that exciting. But for some reason I just really like things like this.

burlesque, shopping anyone?
